Khao Lak is one of my favourite places to visit in Thailand with kids. Home to fabulous beaches and gorgeous resort hotels whenever I visit I just don’t want to leave. This is where life slows down and families get to spend quality time reconnecting and relaxing. Our most recent trip to Khao Lak was a few months ago I for me, it was the best of the year. It can be tough to decide where to stay in Khao Lak with kids as there are so many beautiful hotels to choose from. So these are, in my opinion, the best Khao Lak family resorts to book for your next visit.

How to book the best Khao Lak family resorts
Firstly it’s probably a good idea to run you through my process for booking great hotels for kids clubs any where in Asia. I will always start with a google search and read other blogs to make a shortlist of family friendly stays. Next I will search up the hotels on Tripadvisor to read some real life reviews. I’ll always apply the filter for those traveling as families so I can learn if the hotel has any any special features for kids. Whilst there I do a quick price comparison on Tripadvisor for the dates I am interested in. Next I check prices for the dates on Booking.com or Hotels.com, logging in to my account on both to see if there are any special deals which won’t show up on comparison sites. Finally, if I’m looking for a hotel in Asia then I’ll always check Agoda, they often offer the cheapest deals.
If you’re in the early stages of planning your trip, I highly recommend you read my ultimate guide to Khao Lak.
Fantastic Khao Lak family resorts
Pullman Khao Lak Resort
Located within the Khao Sok National Park right on Bang Muang Beach, the Pullman Khao Lak is a gorgeous family friendly resort. The hotel is a little tropical paradise full of gorgeous Sino-Portuguese and super helpful staff. It has a stunning swim up pool bar, luxurious spa and plenty of spots to relax and watch the sunset.
Being right on the beach means you can spend all day playing in the sand and swimming in the warm Andaman Sea before heading back to the hotel to dine in one of its excellent restaurants or to find somewhere in the small local village. Being half an hours drive from the centre of Khao Lak you may feel a bit cut off but there’s plenty to entertain yourselves in the resort itself.
Special features for kids at The Pullman Khao Lak
Families can choose from bright and contemporary rooms, opulent suites and palatial pool villas. They all have high speed wifi to keep your little ones connected and have either sofa beds or bunk beds to accommodate families of all sizes.
You can borrow kayaks and bikes, try table tennis or join one of the organised activities around the resort. Kids will also love the Saturday night party and fire show on the beach.
Pullman Khao Lak kids club
The kids club at the Pullman resort in Khao Lak is definitely one of the best in the area. This is not just a small place to leave the kids for an hour or two, it’s everything your kids will need for their best holiday ever. The Pullman Khao Lak kids club welcomes children between 4 and 12 each day, offering heaps of organised activities such as crown making, origami classes, movie nights, kite flying and soccer. There are also tents, books and games for independent play.
The kids club is attached to a “Wet Zone” with a small kids pool with slides, splash fountains and a bucket dump. There’s also a separate toddler area for little ones. If your kids don’t fancy getting wet, the resort also has an excellent outdoor play area with a rock climbing area for them to burn off some energy. The cinema room with comfy seating areas is the perfect place for your kids to end the day. It all goes towards making this one of the best family resorts Khao Lak has.
Grand Mercure Khao Lak
Another fantastic beachfront family hotel in Khao Lak is the Grand Mercure hotel in Bangsak. It’s about 20 minutes drive from the centre of Khao Lak and is located in a wonderfully peaceful part of town. I love how laid back and slow life is here. That said, there are several local bars and restaurants, a grocery shop and laundrette within walking distance of the hotel.
The hotel design is modern and Thai led with huge rooms and a gorgeous tropical pool with swim up bar. The hotel has a fully stocked gym and gorgeous spa, perfect for a bit of a pamper.
Special features for kids at the Grand Mercure Khao Lak
Kids are bound to love the kids pool just off the main pool. And having direct beach access will mean you’ll spend hours sand castle building and paddling. Many of the rooms sleep up to four people and are plenty big enough for families.
The kids club at the Grand Mercure Khao Lak
The Manta Ray kids club at the Grand Mercure Khao Lak is located near the main pool. Parents can stay and play with their children or leave them with qualified staff. There are plenty of toys and games to keep all ages entertained during your stay.
Outrigger Resort Khao Lak
Another gorgeous hotel on Bangsak beach is the Outrigger resort. Again it is a mix of modern style with charming Thai features. Towering palm tress offer plenty of shade around the gorgeous pool and it has a fantastic beach-side bar, perfect for watching the sun go down. I absolutely think this is one of the best Khao Lak family resorts and is incredible value for such a great setting.
Special features for kids at the Outrigger Khao Lak
The beachfront pool has a separate area for kids and plenty of shaded sunloungers. Early birds can try beach yoga sessions, Muay Thai or borrow a kayak to explore the waves. Older kids will love the games room with a pool table, air hockey, table tennis and Playstation 4 Console.
The Edgewater restaurant serves plenty of child friendly favourites from Spaghetti Bolognese to pizzas. But there are also plenty of delicious Thai options for the more adventurous.
Outrigger Khao Lak kids club
The Coral kids club at the Outrigger is open daily from 8.30am until 5.30pm and welcomes children aged 4 to 12. I love that they offer supervised beach games such as sandcastle building, volley ball and kite flying as well as all the usual kids club activities.
They also have lego, board games and a DVD library for when your kids just want some peace. The kids club organises a weekly evening disco and games night.
The Outrigger also offer personal babysitting for a small fee for kids who are too young to attend the kids club without their parents.
Robinson Resort Khao Lak
If you’re looking for a resort in Khao Lak that focusses on families above all else then The Robinson is for you. It’s another beach front property set in tropical gardens with a bright and airy design. This is not a Western chain hotel which makes it even more charming. It has a fabulous spa, adults only area for when you want an escape, street food pop ups and beach fire shows.
Special features for kids at The Robinson Resort
The resort offers a daily sports schedule which you (or the kids) can download an app to access. Activities include SUP yoga at the pool, Muay Thai, tennis, volleyball, archery, yoga classes and mini golf. Kids can also try paddle boarding in the warm waves. They hold daily themed nights with quizzes Thai dancing and party nights which kids of all ages will love. Or you can take part in calmer activities such as Thai language learning.
Baby cots, monitors and strollers can be borrowed from reception if available. Baby food is also available in the main restaurant.
The kids club at the Robinson Hotel Khao Lak
The Roby Club is open for 3-6 year olds. Kids can be left with the caring staff and will take part in fun crafting activities and playing on the beach or the outdoor playground when the weather is appropriate. 7 – 12 year olds will attend the R.O.B.Y club which offers similar but more age appropriate activities. Both clubs are closed on a Sunday and open every other day between 10 and 12 and then between 4 and 6.
They also have the Robs club for teens (13 – 17). They keep the activities as relaxed as they can but offer Beach volleyball, archery, mini golf, Thai boxing, water sports, SUP, kayak, mirage, water polo, water boxing, soccer darts, darts, billiards, table tennis, tennis, soccer, basketball, board games, werewolf and many other activities. It’s another of the best family hotels Khao Lak has for older kids.
The Waters Khao Lak
If you and the kids like to spend your holidays hanging out at the pool then you’ll love a stay at the Waters in Khao Lak. This is a gorgeous property with heaps of swim up rooms and a huge main pool. It’s walking distance to all the main attractions in Khao Lak and Bang Niang beach.
Special features for kids at The Waters Khao Lak
Kids will obviously love the pools but this hotel is more suitable for tweens and teens than little kids. They have a pool table, board games and a DVD library to keep you entertained when you’re not swimming. Read about our stay at the Waters Khao Lak.
The kids club at the Waters Hotel
There is no kids club at the Waters Resort in Khao Lak. This means that it’s not one of the best family hotels Khao Lak has if you’re after heaps of organised activities.
Avani Plus Khao Lak
Another luxurious hotel in Khao Lak set right on the beach is the Avani + located in Takua Pa about 20 minutes North of Khao Lak. For a real treat, book one of the family villas with heaps of space and a private pool. It has three excellent restaurants including one right on the beach.
Special features for kids at The Avani Plus Khao Lak
