Are We There Yet Kids is a family travel blog that was born after days trawling the internet planning a trip to Thailand with my daughter whist trying to find a great country pub in the UK (with a playground) to meet a long distance friend in an area neither of us knew. Both took many sites, many hours, and I was left unsure about what I would find when we got there! I just knew there had to be a better way.

All About
Are We There Yet Kids

Hi, welcome to Are We There Yet Kids.
Family travel blog, Are We There Yet Kids was born after days trawling the internet whilst planning a trip to Thailand with my daughter, and trying to find a great country pub in the UK (with a playground) to meet a long distance friend in an area neither of us knew. Both took many sites, many hours, and I was left unsure about what I would find when we got there!
We love a bit of luxury so am always looking for 5 star experiences at 3 star prices and that’s what you can expect in this blog. Stunning places that won’t break the bank but will still make you feel like you’ve splashed out.
The Family behind Are We There Yet Kids
We are Karen (me), Nigel and Piper (the now 13 year old inspiration for this blog) and we love exploring the world, both abroad and close to our Staffordshire home.
We’re not full time travellers, homeschoolers or have a budget of millions but we are here to show you that travel in and around the school holidays is possible, you’ve just got to find the best places to go.
Hello

Karen Quinn
The creator of Are We There Yet Kids
I’m an ex retail buyer which is where my passion for travel began. Visiting amazing places around the world but being stuck in board meetings and factories just wasn’t enough to satisfy my wanderlust.
I’m a chronic over packer, over planner and have never met a country I couldn’t find something to like about. And I’ve never met a sunset I didn’t like.
I’m all about relaxing on a beach with a cold beer and a good book but also get incredibly itchy feet doing this for more than a few hours. I’m an obsessive planner and love researching our next destination in finite detail. Yes, I write up a spreadsheet for everywhere we visit!
My absolute favourite country to travel with my family is Thailand, I love the beauty, value, food and people so much I’ve been 5 times! I’ve also recently fallen in love with Vietnam and Malaysia. Essentially send me anywhere in Asia and I’m happy!
I don’t believe that just because you’re travelling with kids your traveling style has to change. You just have to be flexible and cover everyone’s interest. For that reason we don’t just cover destinations and attractions directly targeted at kids. This blog should give you plenty of ideas on things to do to suit the whole family, no matter how young – or old!
Read my post on travelling long haul with kids to get started.
I really hope this family travel blog helps answer some questions about your upcoming family holidays or inspires you to try somewhere new the next time you travel with kids. If you’d like to get your brand, hotel, venue or destination in front of an engaged audience of family travel fans then feel free to drop me an email at karenquinn@arewethereyetkids.com
I am an official #mystokestory ambassador, working with Stoke on Trent’s tourist board to increase awareness of this wonderful UK city. We’ve also worked with the Prague Tourist Board and the Bologna tourist board highlighting some amazing venues in these cities.

Piper
Piper is the teen of the family, a whirlwind of attitude, excitement and still a fan of a long haul flight. She has danced and sang her way through 34 countries and her dream destination is Alaska.
Piper’s first trip was to France at 6 months, closely followed by Tenerife at 9 months. Despite a rather unfortunate reaction to the flight it reassured us that travel with kids was possible – even enjoyable. And it wasn’t long before we were off on our first long haul adventure to Florida. We haven’t stopped since.
Piper loves Vegas and Thailand and will try just about anything once. She’s ziplined over Fremont street, eaten caviar in San Sebastian and danced all night at a full moon party in Koh Phangan. Her happy place is Glastonbury festival where she’s been going every year possible since she was 3.

Nigel
Nigel is the only one of the family with a full time office job so unfortunately we often have to leave him behind. This does mean that we’ve had some pretty awesome Mummy/daughter adventures. This family travel blog aims to show you the best places to visit around the world making sure you get the most out of you precious time and hard earned cash.
We recently bought a house in a small town in Cornwall and Nigel’s happy place is in the crashing cornish waves at Mawgan Porth beach. His favourite city is Bangkok, he loves a good Real Ale but his true passion is Aston Villa.
“We don’t know where we’ll be in a week or in a month.
We do what we want for as long as we want, always trying out new experiences.”

Holly
When we’re not flying off long haul we always take our Hungarian Vizsla/pointer pup, Holly.
She loves a chasing sticks, playing in waves and destroying slippers. Luckily for us we have a very supportive family network of dogsitters for when she can’t join us.

Where to next?
We’ve got lots of exciting things planned for 2024 starting with South Africa over Easter, a short cruise in May and then Summer in Greece. I cant wait to share our adventures with you.
