Bay View Pwllheli, Our Review
Overlooking Pwllheli Marina, Bay View is in the perfect location for your Welsh group holiday, whether you’re a large family or group of friends, there’s plenty of space so you never feel under each other’s feet.
The Large Holiday Home
The house is recently renovated and bright and modern by design. It’s set over three floors with the kitchen / dining room on the ground floor and large living space on the 1st floor with fantastic views across Pwllheli Marina. The third floor houses three bedrooms, perfect for teens and tweens. The house can sleep up to ten in total making it ideal for a couple of families or group of friends.
The whole house was spotlessly clean when we visited and the beach themed design features were a really cute touch.
The Location of Bay View
The location of this large holiday home is what really made our weekend away super special. There’s plenty to do within walking distance of the property. Pwllheli itself is a delightful old market town, big on tourists with a super friendly atmosphere. There are plenty of tourist shops, souvenirs, beach equipment and lots of lovely bars and cafes for when you need a sit.
The walk down to the marina and The Pwllheli Sailing Centre will take you 15 minutes from Bay View and is where you’ll find the prettiest beach in Pwhelli (turn left if you’re visiting with your dog). Pwllheli Sailing club is a great place to stop for a coffee and some gorgeous home baked cakes. You could even book yourself a sailing lesson! This is also where you’ll find an outdoor laundrette if you need to get any washing done during your stay.
Pwllheli is also perfectly located for exploring the rest of the beautiful beaches of the Llyn Peninsula and is less than an hours drive from Snowdonia National park which has some amazing hikes and of course Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales.
Plenty of Bedrooms
There are 5 bedrooms in total, four double beds and one with bunk beds, ideal for little ones. Each room has some hanging space and drawers so you can unpack and don’t have to live out of a suitcase! All the beds are super comfy and there are blinds in each bedroom.
There is one bedroom located off the kitchen area on the ground floor, ideal for those who may struggle with the stairs or for dog owners as pets are not allowed in the upstairs areas of the house (or the bedrooms).
There is another double bedroom on the first floor and finally three on the top floor.
The main, large family bathroom is on the 1st floor with a corner bath, separate shower and toilet. There’s another shower and toilet on the top floor and a third toilet on the ground floor, off the utility room.
Modern Living Spaces
The large lounge on the 1st floor offers amazing views across Pwllheli, take a peep through the telescope and you’ll see out to Pwllheli sailing club. There are two large sofas and a beanbag to relax on after a busy day of exploring.
The ground floor kitchen is spacious and modern and fully equipped should you want to cook when you’re there. The dining table seats 10 and is a lovely place from which to discuss how to spend your day. The fridge freezer is located in the utility off the kitchen where you’ll find a separate sink and the door to get outside.
Wifi is free and plenty fast enough and there’s a large TV with Freeview to keep the kids happy. We also found a few boardgames, perfect for game night for our large group. The owners have left plenty of info on things to do in the local area.
Parking at the Holiday Home
There isn’t any onsite parking for Bay View, this was no problem for us, there’s an Home Bargains directly across the road which offers free parking for two hours, perfect for unloading or when you’ve got a lot of beach equipment for your day out.
For overnight parking then there are free spaces further up the street from the Weatherspoons pub, no more than five minute’s walk from Bay View.
Outdoor space at Bay View
There isn’t much outdoor space, just a bench and a paved area. You really don’t need it though with beaches and mountains on your doorstep, you’ll want to head out exploring as much as possible.
Visiting with Dogs
One of the main things I love about a staycation is that I can bring our family dog along but not all large holiday homes allow them. Luckily Bay View is super dog friendly and we were able to all enjoy a holiday together.
Normal rules apply here, dogs are only allowed on the ground floor, not in the bedrooms and of course you must clean up after them. Bring your own dog bedding and they’ll be more than happy in the kitchen or utility area.
Wales is an absolute dream for holidays with your pet, there are loads of dog friendly beaches, plenty of mountainous hikes and most pubs are more than happy for you to bring your dog along.
Visiting with Kids
This large holiday home is super family friendly, there are stairgates on each set of stairs, a highchair available for you to use and even some beach toys in the kitchen.
Just be careful when leaving or entering the house with kids, it’s on a bit of a bend of quite a busy road and of course, always keep the front door locked when you’re in the house.
Booking process and checking in
It’s easy to check yourself in with the key lock box located by the front door. You’ll be given the code before you arrive and can check yourself out by leaving the key there when you go.
You can check in between 4pm and 10pm and must check out by 10am.
Where to eat near Bay View House, Pwllheli
If you don’t fancy cooking (we didn’t!) then there of plenty of great restaurants in and around Pwhelli. The local Weatherspoons, Pen Cob Is a two minute walk away from the house, offering some great value breakfasts and evening meals, it’s perfect for keeping the costs down if you’re in a big group. If you download the app, they have order and pay so you don’t even need to leave your seat to place your order.
The Sailing Centre (Plas Heli) is another great place to eat and is again within walking distance if the grown ups fancy a drink. They do a lovely Sunday carvery and some nice top end meals like sea Bass and rack of lamb.
If you’re after a curry then there’s Polash Balti restaurant because for some reason, nothing beats an Indian takeaway on the first night of your staycation!
What’s within walking distance

Getting to Pwllheli
We drove to the Llyn Peninsula from home in the Midlands and it took around 4 hours on the M56/A55, you could also go straight through Snowdonia National park which takes a bit longer but is a lot more scenic. This route probably isn’t for those who get travel sick, it’s very bendy.
Nearest Train Station
You could also travel by train, Pwllheli train station is just over the road from the holiday home. Transport for Wales is the best website to use for planning public transport in Wales and you can click the option for the lowest priced ticket available. It will take you around six hours and a couple of changes from London.
The nearest Supermarket is an Asda, just down the road which has literally everything you could need for your stay.
