Best Restaurant to watch the sunset in North Wales
1. Aqua Beach Bar, Llanbedrog
If you’re anything like our family, eating outside whilst watching the sun go down is the very essence of a family holiday. My favourite place to do this in North Wales in at Aqua Beach Bar at Llanbedrog Beach.
The restaurant is perfectly situated at the entrance to the beach, slightly raised and sheltered by the cliffs and the glass balustrade surrounding the restaurant. It’s a few steps to the beach and so we let the kids down on the sand to play whilst we watched them play enjoying some pre dinner drinks! I think all the best North Wales restaurants should come with views like this!
The restaurant is split into a bar area (the best place to enjoy those sunsets) and the main seated restaurant. Both are outdoors but can be covered by the awnings and drop blinds making it cosy when the welsh weather turns.
The design is contemporary, all whites and turquoises and the bench seats are comfy enough to spend an evening on. But really it’s the views you should come for.
Staff are friendly, the manager was wandering round, chatting to customers and pouring drinks and waiting staff will do their best to answer any questions.
The Food at Aqua Beach Bar
The food is in keeping with the relaxed vibe of the restaurant with bar snacks and bagettes during the day and a slightly more upscale, restaurant feel in the evening. Prices are quite high but you’re paying for the location more than anything. Our meal for 8, four adults, 4 teens and tweens cost around £200 including drinks.
We enjoyed some tasty starters, think calamari and fresh salads followed by large mains, burgers and a spicy curry. The puddings were also delicious and a perfect way to end the meal.
How to get to Aqua Beach Bar
Head straight to Llanbedroch beach, there’s plenty of parking available if you have a car. We arrived in a taxi but nearly got stuck as we hadn’t booked one to return. Either agree with your taxi there a time you want collecting or ask staff to book you one as soon as you arrive. Taxis in North Wales seem limited, especially during peak times.

Best Restaurant for Fresh Seafood in North Wales
2. Twnti Seafood restaurant, Pwllheli
This is THE restaurant to come to for the freshest seafood in the area. What Twnti lacks in sea views, it makes up for in amazing food.
The vibe is rustic, set in a converted barn surrounded by the North Wales hills, just down the road from Pwllheli. It’s very red and a little dark inside (sorry about the pictures!). But it feels like a very intimate and cosy place for dinner.
Service is very friendly and relaxed, the minute you walk in you’ll feel like an old friend which is probably why so many customers return again and again.
The Food at Twnti Seafood Restaurant
Seafood all the way, their extensive menu includes all manner of fish and shellfish with most ingredients fresh and locally sourced. Don’t worry if you’re not a seafood lover, they do have other options but not much that would be suitable for vegetarians. See Twntis 2019 menu here.
It’s very expensive so best to save for a special occasion dinner, 3 courses for 8 adults with wine cost upwards of £400!
How to get to Twnti Seafood Restaurant
There is a fairly large car park in front of the restaurant or book a taxi if you fancy a drink or don’t want to face navigating the lanes in the dark (I wouldn’t!).

Best restaurant for lunch on the beach in North Wales
3. Ty Coch Inn, Porthdinllaen
Located in the tiny fishing village of Porthdinllaen the Ty Coch Inn is the most amazing place for a relaxed lunch right on the beach. Its chilled vibe and selection of beers had us returning several times, once for a delicious lunch after a morning of rock pooling. Eating on a beach really does feel very special.
They have a covered outdoor seating area with picnic benches and a small inside area to sit if the weather turns.
This pub is definitely one of the most popular in the whole of North Wales so securing a table is tricky on a nice day, this isn’t a problem, they’ll give you a stake to put in the sand so they know where to bring your food, a great way to eat!
They do not take bookings and food is only served for lunch – this is dining at its most casual.
The food at the Ty Coch Inn
Delicious and fresh pub grub is how I would describe the food at the Ty Coch, they offer a good selection of jacket potatoes, ploughmans and pasties, the crab sandwich was my absolute favourite. Just because it’s pub food, doesn’t have to mean lower quality!
For such a popular location, they haven’t gone overboard with the prices, I thought it was great value for the quality.
They have a small kids menu and a few vegetarian options to keep everyone happy.
How to get to the Ty Coch Inn
This is the trickiest restaurant on the list to get to, you’ll need to walk a fair distance (about 20 minutes either over Morfa Nefyn Golf Course or from the National Trust Car Park at Porthdinllaen across the beach. Get all the details in my post about Llyn Penisula beaches.

Best restaurant for all day dining in North Wales
4. Zinc Bar and Grill, Abersoch
Sometimes you just want somewhere nice for breakfast or brunch and I think Zinc restaurant in North Wales is the perfect place for it. Open from 9 until 3, and then again for dinner at 6 this bright and airy restaurant is great when you’re in a big group and just want feeding fast!
The large glass conservatory at the back offers some lovely views of Abersoch harbour.
The Food at Zinc Bar and Grill
They pretty much seem to serve anything you could want, huge breakfasts, lunch, afternoon tea and larger meals for dinner. They use local produce where possible and they’re homemade burgers were absolutely delicious.
Prices are mid-range, perhaps a little high but then this is Abersoch after all!
How to get to Zinc bar and grill
It’s super easy, just head into Abersoch and it’s on the main stretch down to the beach. The restaurant doesn’t have onsite parking so find one of the pay and displays in town and walk the five minutes.

Best Café for lunch in North Wales
5. Blue China Tea Rooms, Criccieth
You cannot visit North Wales and not have lunch in one of the many cute independent cafes, you’ll find them in pretty much every town and village. Our favourite was in the coastal town of Criccieth, just a short walk down toward the beach from Criccieth castle.
The café has a small outdoor seating area overlooking Criccieth beach and au upstairs seating area perfect for large group.
The food at Blue China Tea Rooms
This is basic UK café food done to a very high standard, jackets, sandwiches, full breakfasts washed down with he pots of tea are what we enjoyed here, no one was left hungry and there were plenty of options for picky kids.
How to get to Blue China Tea Rooms
There is on road parking around the café or a few payable car parks in Criccieth, all within a fairly easy walk.

Best place for ice cream in North Wales
6. Criccieth
What’s a family holiday without an ice cream?! We seem to get through an insane amount of this treat when ever we’re away from home. So I feel we’ve become experts on finding the best in the area.
If you’re looking for quality, then head to Criccieth where you’ll hopefully find the sweetest little gelato van doing the rounds. They use all fresh ingredients so you can convince yourself it’s slightly healthy!
If you miss it then head to Cadwaladers, the home of Welsh ice cream up near the castle. The ice cream is just as good and you can enjoy it inside if its rainy. They also do shakes, sundaes, coffees and hot chocolates.
And for when you want something cheap, quick and easy
7. Weatherspoons!
It may not have a glamorous reputation or the most exotic ingredients but sometime you just want something quick, easy and delivers exactly what you expect.
There are Weatherspoons dotted all over North Wales, just type in your location and head to the nearest.
As we were staying in Pwllheli we went to the Pen Cob for dinner when we arrived, starving hungry after a four hour drive, dinner for the 8 of us was tasty, quick and amazing value. I like a fancy restaurant as much as the next person but this isn’t always the most fun when traveling with kids as we do.
As you can see, there is so much choice for eating in North Wales, restaurants come in all shapes, sizes and price ranges. Let me know in the comments if I’ve missed your favourite.
If you’re looking for somewhere to stay in North Wales whilst you try out all this delicious food then check out the large family holiday home we rented in Pwllheli.
Make sure you pin for later to find all the best North Wales Restaurants.
Best place for ice cream is Fortes Restaurant on
