Westin Langkawi Hotel Review
We had an amazing 6 night stay at the Westin Langkawi Resort and Spa and totally loved every part of it! I think it’s the nicest hotel we have ever stayed at – definitely the one with the best view! Read this Westin Langkawi review to discover more.

The Location of the Westin Langkawi
It’s at most a 30 minute taxi or hire car ride from the airport. Langkawi is a pretty quiet island so you are unlikely to get stuck in traffic. Just follow the road all the way to Kuah, past the port and pick up the signs to the Westin. We hired a car at the airport – it was a real banger! But it got us where we needed to go. Even if it did raise a few eyebrows when we pulled up to this five star resort.
The hotel is right on its own private beach. It has plenty of bars and restaurants and activities available if you don’t want to leave the resort. If you want to go exploring a little further afield, you will need a car or the hotel will get a taxi for you. At a push you can probably walk into Kuah, to the port or the newly renovated Fisherman’s Wharf at the Royal Langkawi Yacht Club. Here you’ll find a Starbucks and a few nice restaurants.
My favourite part of this resort is the view. From the moment you walk into reception and see the huge glass windows overlooking the Andaman Sea and surrounding islands, your stress melts away. You just know you’ve landed somewhere special. The view from the main infinity pool is even better. And it’s an absolutely spectacular spot for sunsets, you’ll see all the colours of the sky.
The Rooms and Hotel decor
The room was huge with an amazing bed – big enough for all of us. A separate bathroom, huge TV and lovely balcony overlooking the pool. There was plenty of storage space. And even a plug in the safe so you can charge your appliances when you’re out and about.
If you’re after something a bit bigger the hotel also has suites and private villas with pools which looked super luxurious.
The feel of the hotel is very spacious and modern. A lot of thought has gone into design with beautiful features everywhere you look. But I didn’t feel it was so overly pristine, I couldn’t let Piper touch the furniture. The main focus seems to be on wellness and relaxation. Plush sofas everywhere you look, fresh fruit juice elixirs everyday in reception (delicious), a well equipped gym, squash and tennis courts. Even a menu highlighting superfood dining options in every restaurant. So you can take your luxury with a side order of healthy if you choose!
The People and wildlife
Everyone who served us was extremely helpful and you could tell they wanted to make our stay perfect. From the chefs going out of the way to ensure Piper had something to enjoy for dinner to the reception and concierge staff being on hand to help with local advice. We felt totally welcome at all times.
We also came across some amazing animals during our stay, we met several monkeys wandering around the resort and saw a huge lizard sunning itself one morning on the boulders in the pool. It all added to the magic!
Special Features for Kids
This Westin Langkawi review wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the family friendly features. This is a brilliantly kid friendly hotel. Piper loved making new friends every day, having been stuck with boring adults for the past couple of weeks!
Westin Langkawi kids club
The hotel has a kids club onsite which offers loads of activities such as scavenger hunts and beach exploring everyday. Staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming as with all Westin hotels we’ve stayed at. We had no concerns leaving Piper in their capable hands for an hour or so.
Some nights they had a big screen showing family favourites by the pool. Other nights there was live music and dancing.
The hotel has an onsite Naturalist you can join on walks to learn more about local flora, fauna and wildlife. It’s fascinating for all ages! You can also try kayaking, tennis or squash.
Food for kids at the Westin Langkawi
The food options are excellent for children. They have an extensive kids menu. Including all the usual Western favourites and the breakfast and evening buffets have loads of options available.
Kid friendly swimming
They have a huge, shallow pool for those who aren’t strong swimmers and a fab rock pool which we struggled to pull Piper out of!
Westin Langkawi restaurants
The food at the Westin Langkawi amazing and plentiful. We didn’t have breakfast included but paid for it a few times during our stay. There was so much choice and everything was fresh and delicious. The chefs will make whatever you fancy. Perfect for picky eaters. There is plenty of healthy stuff available. If you can resist the bread and butter pudding! The Westin Langkawi breakfast price is just under £17 per person.
We also ate at Breeze Bar. It was very tasty although it was so dark outside, we couldn’t see our food. They had live entertainment and a very chilled out atmosphere. They also do a fabulous afternoon tea which we would have loved to have tried.
The “Catch of the Day” promotional night at Tide restaurant was also lovely. With fresh fish to choose from, cooked exactly how you like it. The views from this restaurant are some of the best on the island and the perfect accompaniment to some fresh seafood.
We also attended the themed buffet at Seasonal Tastes on our last night. All the food was excellent quality. With a huge selection and my daughters favourite – a chocolate fountain with all the trimmings for dessert!
The Pools at the Westin Langkawi
The pools were easily my daughters favourite part of her stay. They have a choice of four pools in total with plenty of sun loungers and towels available. The main infinity pool overlooking the Andaman Sea is home to swim up Splash Bar. Perfect for a cocktail whilst enjoying the view. Or if you’re feeling healthy they also serve mocktails, fresh coconuts and smoothies.
Splash bar also offers a poolside food and drink service at all the other pools, just press the service button! The rock pool was Pipers favourite. We even bumped into some friendly monkeys on our way there on our second day.
Value for money
It’s a Westin so it’s expensive (for Malaysia)! I would recommend including the breakfast buffet when you book your room as you can easily fill yourself up till dinner time. Also make sure you are signed up to the SPG program as you can get discounts off food and drink in most of the restaurants.
Langkawi is a duty free island so buying drinks outside the hotel is much cheaper if you want to relax in your room in the evening. Overall for the location and quality of service you get at the hotel I would say it’s extremely good value for money and we would happily go back.
Agoda is always my go to hotel booking agent for hotels in Asia. Have a look at prices for your stay at the Westin hotel and Resort, Langkawi.
Free (as an SPG member), fast and constant – no complaints!
