One of the things I loved about Koh Samui was the many modern, relaxed restaurants with great views out to sea. They’re all super child friendly and we often spent several hours over lazy dinners and cocktails whilst the kids played in the sand. If you’re wondering where to eat near the fisherman’s village on the island then you can’t go wrong with a trip to Coco Tams, Koh Samui, a beautiful beachside restaurant in Bophut.

Design of Coco Tams, Koh Samui
Often described as the coolest beach bar in Koh Samui I have to say I agree with its well earned title. The bar area which spills out on to the sand is unapologetically chilled. There are wooden bar swings a plenty should you fancy a cocktail at the bar and huge squishy bean bags on the beach, perfect for soaking up some rays or watching the stunning sunsets.
If you’re there for a meal, the restaurant area is as equally relaxed whilst being stunningly presented. Think pale wood, sharing tables, large swing seats all with a great view out to sea.
The food at Coco Tams
All the food we’ve tried at Coco Tams has been beautifully presented and extremely tasty. The menu contains a great mix of Thai specialities and Western favourites. Ideal if you’re looking for somewhere to eat in Koh Samui with kids.
Our table of six ordered a massive sharing platter to start with meats, bread, cheeses and olives which was all totally yummy.
Then pizzas, pasta, salad and seafood. The sizes were generous and it was cooked to perfection. It was brilliant to find a good bowl of salad, something I always struggle with in Thailand. There were several vegan options available.
If you’re not after a full meal you can order tasty bar snacks which will keep you going till dinner.
Cocktails at Coco Tams are strong, cold and delicious. If you’re after something non alcoholic for yourselves or a treat for the kids, the fruit juices are lovely.
Food is very pricey for Thai standards but I do think this is to be expected. Koh Samui is one of the more expensive islands anyway and this is a high end restaurant.
Entertainment at Coco Tams
Coc0 Tams is all about the atmosphere and this they supply in bucket loads. Each night there’s a fire show on the beach. This was amazing and terrifying all at once. There’s something just magical about watching sparks fly in front of the sea. Settle down on one of the comfy beanbags, order a cocktail and enjoy the show.
On some evenings they have a big screen on the beach and they have regular live music nights. You can see what’s on on the Coco Tams Website.
Visiting Coco Tams with kids
You’ll be sure to find something for the kids to eat at Coco Tams. Whilst there isn’t a particular kids menu, the main menu is extensive enough that there’s something to suit all taste buds. Piper unsurprisingly opted for the Spaghetti Bolognese and wolfed it down.
Kids will love the nightly fire show where talented dancers throw fire shapes right on the sand. Kids are often invited down to the front and can even take part in some audience participation. The fire does get pretty close but they were always safe. And what little one doesn’t love a swing seat at the beach or a hammock over the sand?!
Nobody worried that our two girls were wandering the restaurant, trying the swing seats and playing on the sand. This is always such a relief when traveling with kids.
The Service
Staff were always extremely friendly and happy to help. It was at times a little slow, this is a very popular restaurant! But that just added to the laid back ambience.
There were plenty of staff walking the beanbags on the sand ready to take your next cocktail order.
Where is Coco Tams in Koh Samui
Coco Tams is located at the end of the Fishermans Village in Bophut. It’s in a prime location right on Bophut Beach. You can reach it by walking through the village, it’s just across from the main square. If you’re driving there’s a large carpark at the entrance to the Fisherman’s market or ask your taxi to drop you off at the beachside entrance to the village.
Bophut is located in the North of the Island which is about 15 minutes drive from the airport. It’s twenty minutes drive from popular Chaweng and about half an hour from Lamai.
Coco Tams is always busiest on a Friday night when the night market comes to the Fishermans village. It’s a great place to visit after you’ve had your fill of shopping at the many local stalls.
