Whilst I absolutely love Thai food sometimes I just need something different. Often towards the end of our visits we start craving a taste of home, something warm and comforting instead of fresh and spicy. Plus my daughter would happily live on pasta if we let her. I was so glad we found The Cliff Bar and Grill, an amazing seafood and Italian restaurant, Koh Samui.
This one is pretty fancy making it an ideal choice for a special occasion and the view from the outside terrace is so good it’s made it on to my list of the top viewpoints in Koh Samui.

The Cliff Koh Samui Menu
The menu at the Cliff bar and grill is distinctly European and extensive. You’re bound to find something to please every member of your party. There are heaps of Italian favourites to choose from. There’s Bruschetta, Bolognese, arrabbiata, fettuccini, lasagna and loads more. My daughter opted for the spaghetti bolognese and absolutely wolfed it down.
The restaurant also offers a huge range of seafood with mussels, tiger prawns, calamari and lobster cooked in various ways. The seafood platters looked amazing if you can’t settle on just one thing.
I loved that this was one of the few places we found on Koh Samui to get an imported steak similar to what we’re used to back home. Thai’s don;’t seem to eat much red meat so a good steak can be hard to come by. The piri piri chicken and fries was also a massive hit with our group, plenty hot but in a different way to Thai.
They do have some Thai favourites such as yellow curry and tom yam on the menu if you’re still craving something fresh spicy.
Vegan options at the Cliff
We visited the Cliff with a Vegan and a vegetarian and although we did not see a specific menu the waiters and chef were happy to talk through options.

Can you visit this restaurant with kids?
Absolutely! We had three kids with us and they were warmly welcomed by staff. Staff were happy to prepare child sized portions of the pasta dishes for them and served sugary, creamy milkshakes for dessert.
If available, staff will give younger kids paper and crayons to keep them busy whilst you browse the menu and sip your pre dinner drinks. They have several high chairs if required but always best to ring ahead and check first.
Design of the Cliff Bar and Grill
The atmosphere at the Cliff is distinctly luxurious and romantic. This would make an excellent choice for an intimate dinner but you will not feel out of place visiting as a family group.
The dark interiors and huge floral displays add to the cosy, romantic atmosphere although no where feels too cramped.

Why is this such a unique restaurant in Koh Samui?
I love that the Cliff bar and grill offer extremely high quality European dishes which can sometimes be hard to find in Thailand. But in my opinion the real highlight of this luxury restaurant in Koh Samui is the location and view. It’s perched on a cliff just off the main road between Chaweng and Lamai. The stunning outdoor seating areas offers some fabulous views across to Silver Beach and you can watch the boats bobbing up and down at sea as the sun sets.
If like me, you’re obsessed with restaurants with a view then make sure you try the Jungle Club which is just North of The Cliff.
Service at the Cliff Restaurant
Even though the restaurant was pretty busy during our meal the service was exceptional. Staff were very happy to help with any queries and were clearly knowledgeable of the menu.
Reservations for this Italian restaurant, Koh Samui
You can make a reservation online on the Cliff Bar and Grill website or give them a call on +66 (0) 77 448 508. I’d book as far in advance as possible in order to secure a table on the terrace. There are two sittings each evening one at 6pm and one at 8.30pm to ensure meals aren’t rushed through. You should be able to get an indoor table at any time.
The Cliff restaurant is open Tuesday to Sunday from 12pm until 1am.
How to get to the Cliff Bar and Grill
The cliff is located near the town of Maret on the East of Koh Samui. Head South from Chaweng on the 4169 ring road and you’ll see the restaurant on your left.

Is this luxury restaurant in Koh Samui good value for money?
This is definitely one of the more expensive restaurants on Koh Samui. They alway use high quality ingredients and much of the meat and some of the seafood is imported. You can expect to pay over £40 for a steak and around £30 for a seafood combo. Pasta is considerably cheaper. As with everywhere on Koh Samui, wine is pretty expensive but beers and cocktails not too bad.
Dress code for the Cliff Bar and Grill Koh Samui
Whilst I couldn’t find an official dress code for The Cliff I would say it’s a good opportunity to dress up a bit. It’s a high end restaurant so you will definitely feel out of place if you turn up in your scruffs.
Where to stay near this Italian restaurant, Koh Samui
We were staying at the lovely Outrigger Resort when we visited The Cliff. It’s a five minute drive to the restaurant and a beautiful contemporary hotel with a lovely pool area and small stretch of pristine sand.
You could also try the nearby Banyan Tree for the ultimate in luxury stays. Or the Crystal Bay resort which is located right on the pristine Silver Beach.
