We’re not a family of campers, I wish we were, I see all the gorgeous pics on Instagram of happy families toasting marshmallows, ready for a night under the stars and I just want to pack up our tent and get on the road. It’s just never worked for us, every time we’ve tried it’s been too hot or cold, Piper’s cried all night or we’ve pitched on a hill and woken up to a flat air bed. So glamping seemed like the perfect combination – outdoor fun with all the comforts of home.

The Location of Glamping on the Hill
We were headed to Glastonbury Festival for the weekend and didn’t fancy staying onsite with the kids so found Glamping on the Hill at the Vobster Inn when we were looking for alternatives. If you’re here looking for accommodation near the festival be sure to check out this mistakes to avoid when taking your kids to a festival. It’s located in the gorgeous Somerset countryside in a tiny village called Lower Vobster. They have two yurts on a hill in the pub grounds so whilst you feel you are in the middle of nowhere from the top, there are all the comforts of a traditional country pub – freshly cooked food, parking and pints just a two minute walk away.
Each day it took us about twenty mins and £40 in a taxi to get to Glastonbury but it’s also close enough to many other activities, it’s worth a visit at any time of year.

As the name suggests, the yurts are situated at the top of a pretty steep hill so the views of the surrounding countryside are amazing. The trek up the hill with loads of stuff was pretty hard going at first but they provide you with a pull along trailer which was a lovely touch and helped us with our bags.
Our kids loved running around the field outside the Yurts and chatted to the chickens at the bottom of the hill on our way to breakfast. The whole place feels very safe and secure so you really can kick back and relax.
The Yurts
Each Yurt can sleep up to 6 people. We visited as two families – four adults and two 6 year olds. The sleeping arrangements were perfectly comfortable. There is one full double bed – as comfy and cosy as home and 4 other pull out/temporary beds. There’s not much space for unpacking but it was not a problem to live out of our bags for a few days.
The yurts are beautifully furnished with some really lovely touches. Pretty cushions, plenty of blankets, cute fairy lights and pegs to hang your stuff. There are plenty of sockets to charge your devices and a little kitchen area with a kettle, fridge, induction hob and crockery. There’s a BBQ and firepit for you to use outside if you want some campfire cooking. Or the pub does great food if you want to be spoilt.
There is a log burner inside the yurt which we didn’t use as it was plenty hot inside. I can imagine it being lovely and cosy if you’re staying in winter.
Each Yurt has it’s own private shower room, flushing toilet and drinking tap. There’s plenty of outdoor seating for some late night ciders around the firepit. Heaven!
The Service at Glamping on the Hill
Wow! The owners were so helpful and accommodating. It’s all the extra touches which I’m sure will mean they have loads of repeat business.
Our booking included continental breakfast which is left in a basket at the bottom of the hill each morning/evening. This includes cereals, toast, pastries, milk and juice. This was perfect to set us up for the day. We also had a cooked breakfast in the Vobster Inn – delicious!
There is plenty of tea and coffee for you in the yurt and each evening the owners will clean your crockery. They’ll deliver freshly washed back to you each morning. You just take it to the man shed at the bottom of the hill. Who knew cleaning fairies do actually exist!
On our second day, our trailer broke and the owners were super kind. They helped us source a new one and lent us screwdrivers for us to put it together. Top service!
Value for money
