Da Nang in Central Vietnam makes for a wonderful city break for beach lovers. You’ll be spoilt for choice with the miles of soft sand and gently lapping waves. For me, the best beach in Da Nang is Non Nuoc.
Don’t just take my word for it, this beach has be chosen by several 5 star resorts and hotels who take up their own section of the seafront. Families come to Non Nuoc to escape the business of My Khe beach – the main beach in the city. It was practically deserted when we visited, staring out to sea really does feel like you’ve been dumped in the middle of nowhere. The beach stretches just over 3 miles and the sea and sand are some of the cleanest I’ve seen anywhere in the world.

What to do at Non Nuoc Beach
This is not a beach packed full of things to do which to me just adds to the charm. It’s made for walking along, paddling in the waves and building sand castles.
If you do fancy a bit more adventure then Non Nuoc is ideal for swimming, paddle boarding, snorkelling or even Paragliding. Non Nuoc has held several surfing contests over the years. Between September and March, the waves pick up, making the conditions ideal for the sport.
Non Nuoc is also one of my favourite places to watch the sun set in Da Nang. Find a beachside restaurant, grab a local beer and take in the amazing colours as the sun dips behind the city.
There is very little natural shade at Non Nuoc and the sun in Vietnam is pretty unforgiving. Make sure to bring plenty of suncream and water, especially if you’re visiting with kids. If you walk along the beach you’ll find several recliners and parasols. Good to keep you cool for a few hours.
Where is Non Nuoc Beach
Located in Hoa Hai, just South of the city, Non Nuoc can be found at the foot of Ngu Hanh Son Mountain. Another natural wonder in Da Nang.
How to get to Non Nuoc Beach
We were staying at the Ocean Villas in Hoa Hai so only had to walk through the resort to get to the soft sand then across to the beach. If you’re staying in Da Nang itself then the easiest and quickest way is to order a Grab (Vietnam’s equivalent of Uber). It will take you around 15 minutes and cost under £5.
You could also hire a motor bike or car – just be careful driving through the busy streets of Da Nang. As of early 2020 there is limited public transport to Non Nuoc. You could always walk from the city which will take around an hour and a half. It will take you past some other pretty beaches. There are plenty of places to stop for refreshments along the way.
What to take to the beach
You’ll definitely need sunscream for a visit to Non Nuoc. My daughter is very sensitive to many brands so I make sure we always travel with several bottles of factor 50 P20 which doesn’t irritate her skin. I also make sure we have a couple of full water bottles. These keep our drinks cool and makes sure we stay hydrated. I like these colourful Chilly’s Water Bottles.
For when we find somewhere to settle – or to help cover shoulders before they get pink I carry one of these pretty mandala beach blankets and to make sure Piper doesn’t burn, a kids rash vest is an absolute essential.
When to visit
Non Nuoc is a great beach to visit year round. Da Nang has a tropical monsoon climate with October being the wettest month. Even then they’ll be many dry days suitable for a trip to the beach. If you’re visiting in July or August – just be warned, it gets super hot.
For some other amazing beaches in central Vietnam, consider a trip to Hoi An, a fantastic coastal village.
