For ease and atmosphere, the Riverside area of Bangkok is our favourite place to stay when we’re in the city. Being next to ferry boat links, easy access to the BTS and having a cooling breeze off the water just makes the whole area feel very convenient. However it’s also one of the most expensive, with massive luxury resorts such as the Shangri-La and the Peninsula. I think I’ve found the best value riverside hotel Bangkok has. Here’s why you should definitely book the Ramada Plaza by Wyndham for your next stay in the city.

Location of the Ramada Plaza Bangkok Riverside
One of the best things about the Ramada Menam Hotel is it’s location on the banks of the Chao Phraya river. This makes it ideal for exploring Bangkok whilst providing a quiet oasis to relax after a busy day. You’re bound to spot some amazing sunsets over the river if you grab yourself a drink from the terrace bar.

The hotel has it’s very own complimentary boat shuttle service which will ferry guests to the nearest public pier at Central. From there you can jump on the BTS at Saphan Taksin to easily access the city or take an onward public boat further up the river. We never had to wait long for the next boat and the journey down the river was super fun. It made it really easy to visit some amazing sights such at the Grand Palace, Wat Arun and Museum Siam.

The hotel is also within walking distance of Asiatique the Riverfront, a great place for shopping and entertainment which has an excellent selection of restaurants. It’s here that you’ll find Bangkok’s big wheel and the temporary Disney 100 Village.
There’s not that much else to do around the Ramada Plaza by Wyndham Menam, out front there’s a couple of sweet bars, a tailors, a few shops and some street food stalls on the main road. You’ll probably spend most of your time elsewhere.

Facilities at this Riverside hotel, Bangkok
The Ramada isn’t just about the location, it also has some great facilities you can enjoy during your stay. First up is the spectacular pool. It’s vivid blue and surrounded by lush greenery. This feels less of a city centre pool, more like something you would find further south by the coast.

It has a great little pool bar where you can get cold drinks and snacks, plenty of loungers and stays open well into the evening. Perfect for when you’re traveling with kids or just fancy a sunset dip.

If you like to work out during your travel, the hotel has a well sized gym and also an excellent spa. Whilst prices at the spa wont reflect those you’ll find on the streets, the quality and surroundings more than make up for it.
If you need any help organising your Bangkok tours then there is a kiosk right next to the shuttle boat. The lady manning the kiosk was super helpful even though we didn’t plan on booking anything.

The rooms at the Ramada Wyndham Menam Bangkok
As a family of three we opted for a Deluxe Double Room with a pool view. It had two huge beds which were super comfy, so much so we all missed breakfast on our first morning as we overslept!

The rooms have tea and coffee making facilities, plenty of storage areas if you want to unpack, a flat screen TV, safe, robes and hairdryer.

The view from our room was pretty special. We overlooked the bright blue pool and could even see the river and city beyond.

The bathroom had plenty of toiletries that were replenished everyday and a bathtub with shower and shutters overlooking the bedroom.

Restaurants at the Ramada Hotel Riverside Bangkok
The hotel has several restaurants and bars and we found the food a consistently high standard.
We absolutely loved Terrace@72 for dinner on our first night. The menu is a mix of Western and Thai favourites.

I opted for my first Thai green curry of our visit which was delicious and a variety of satay sticks to start. Piper had her go to spaghetti bolognaise which she wolfed down. Plus the singapore slings were strong and the perfect side of sweet.

They also do an evening buffet if you’re after a bigger meal.
Breakfast is again served in Terrace@72 and is absolutely epic. It seemed to have literally everything available from all corners of the world. The sushi selection was fab, as was the wide variety of fruit on offer. They also had a fresh egg station, pancakes and plenty of traditional hot Thai dishes. Take advantage of it all and there will be no need to stop for lunch!

As with most hotel buffet breakfasts in big cities, it can get pretty busy but you should be able to find a table.

The lobby lounge is a good place for pre-dinner drinks and often has live music in the evenings. We also loved the terrace bar overlooking the river.

Is this a family friendly hotel in Bangkok Riverside?
I would say it absolutely is! My daughter absolutely loved our stay at the Ramada. The room was plenty big enough for the three of us and, to her, the pool was an absolute dream. We were able to find child friendly food in all of the restaurants in the hotel which is always a relief when you’ve just arrived in a new city.
The hotel has a kids club next to the pool with a reasonable schedule of activities although we didn’t use it as we were always out exploring. The bakery in the hotel lobby is also a great place to pick up sweet treats for little ones.

Why this is the best value Riverside hotel in Bangkok
Our family sized room cost us £69 per night which included breakfast for three. For a 5 star hotel in such a brilliant location I think that’s amazing value. The free shuttle boat and massive breakfast saved us loads in taxi fees and snacks and we felt utterly spoilt at the pool. Yes the hotel is a little run down (not so much to put you off), if you’re after pristine then head to the Peninsula, although these rooms will set you back upwards of £400 per night. We would prefer to save the money and splurge on hotels on the islands.
