Why IconSiam Bangkok is a must visit in the city

Built in 2018 at a cost of 1.6 billion dollars IconSiam Bangkok was launched to provide a luxury shopping experience right on the Chao Phraya river. But it really is so much more than that. Home to fabulous restaurants, recreational activities and a gorgeous hotel. This really is a great place to visit if you have some spare time in Bangkok.

Fun things to do in IconSiam (other than shopping)

Monet and Friends Alive

I absolutely love immersive art experiences and Monet and Friends Alive at IconSiam is one of the best. The famous artist, and other French impressionists paintings have been bought alive in a brand new digital exhibition. It’s like walking directly into their artwork to music and narrative.

Monet and Friends Alive runs at IconSiam from 22nd Sept 2023 – 07th Jan 2024.

IconSiam multi media fountains

Did you know that South East Asia’s longest water fountain feature is located at IconSiam? You can watch the pretty fountains shoot 35 meters in to the sky and dance around to music. It’s almost reminiscent of the Bellagio fountains but with a distinctly Thai theme. The show starts each evening at 18.30 and again at 20.00.

Art in the Park

The park area outside IconSiam is a lovely place for a wander and break from the shops. You’ll discover heaps of ever changing artwork and pretty sculptures. There always seems to be something going on on the stage outside the Mall, the last time we were there was a kite flying competition.

The Icon Cineconic at IconSiam Mall

IconSiam’s huge cinema offers 13 screens with one being 4DX, a sofa screen, IMAX and a VIP screen. They show all the latest movies and you can even order food and drinks directly to your seat.

Wellness and Relaxation at Iconsiam

If you’re trying to get over some jetlag or just want to relax for a few hours, there are a few excellent day spas you can try. Try Bhu Mai, Love massage or Thann Sanctuary. They all offer Thai, oil and foot massages and prices aren’t too dissimilar to regular massage parlours on Bangkok’s streets but they are way more luxurious.

Things to do with kids at IconSiam

Whilst I’m sure kids will love all the other things on my list of attractions at IconSiam, Bangkok, there are a few attractions just for kids.

Kid friendly cinema

It’s always fun taking the kids to the cinema but it can end up being more stress than it’s worth. Little ones especially don’t want to sit still, need regular bathroom breaks and like to chatter their way through a movie. This is all absolutely encouraged in the kids cinema at IconSiam. There are comfy sofas, a slide and even a ball pit to watch the movie. The cinema is found on the 6th floor.

Mega Harbourland

If you’re kids love a mix of soft play and adventure then Mega Harbourland will be a massive hit. They have slides, a zipline, ball and cannon games and a rather brilliant donut slide. Mega Harbourland can be found on the 6th floor.

Luxury Shopping at IconSiam

IconSiam Bangkok is home to over 700 shops and outlets so you’re sure to cover pretty much every shopping need. It has all the luxury stores and brands you would expect from a high end mall alongside popular Thai department stores and gift shops.

The ICONLUXE building is where you’ll find the ultra exclusive brands such as Louis Vuitton and Bvlgari, the stores are like pieces of art in their own right.

ICONCRAFT

The Iconcraft area is my favourite place to shop in the mall. Its full of original products all created by local designers. It’s a great place to pick up unique home-wear, gifts and accessories.

Midrange stores at IconSiam

If you’re budget doesn’t quite stretch to Bottega Veneta, you can still enjoy a shopping trip to IconSiam. They have a huge H & M, a Cos and a Zara. Most of these are located on the first floor.

Shopping for kids at IconSiam

There are plenty of child friendly stores at IconSiam, for toys and equipment head to Toys R Us and Jelly Bunny, Mothercare for all you’re baby needs and H & M or Zara for kids fashion.

Just be aware, IconSiam is not the place for discount goods, the luxury brands will be the same price as home and this is not where you’ll find fake knock offs – head to the Khao San road for those!

Where to eat in IconSiam Bangkok

If you’re hungry then you’ll be absolutely spoilt for choice during a visit to IconSiam. They seem to have restaurants for everyone. There are also plenty of coffee shops and bars if you just fancy a drink. See a full list of restaurants at IconSiam.

Alangkarn Zone

Located on the sixth floor, Alangkarn is absolutely full of fine dining opportunities. It’s also home to another fabulous multimedia water feature. As with the rest of IconSiam it’s cleverly designed in a modern but authentically Thai way. Here you’ll find the famous Thip Samai Restaurant which serve one of the best (and maybe most expensive) Pad Thais in Bangkok. There are also several other high end Thai restaurants, seafood and western eateries plus plenty of places for dessert.

The Floating Market at Sooksiam

Whilst not exactly a traditional floating market – the boats are most definitely not traveling anywhere this is a great place to grab a snack or meal. Sooksiam is located on the ground floor behind the main restaurants.

As well as food, you’ll also find some smaller artisanal shops selling crafts and soaps. It’s meant to be like a stroll around Thailands smaller villages and is a great space for a mooch and ideal for a first street food experience in Bangkok.

Where to stay near IconSiam in Bangkok

Millennium Hilton Bangkok

I think the best option if you want to stay near IconSiam Mall is the Millennium Hilton. It’s right next to the Mall and directly connected. Their infinity pool overlooking the river is absolutely stunning and rooms are beautifully decorated with huge comfy beds and all the amenities you would expect from a 5 star hotel.

Ramada Plaza by Wyndham Riverside

If you’d rather save your money for shopping then the Ramada Plaza by Wyndham Menam is a great value riverside hotel. It has a free shuttle boat to Sathorn pier where you can jump on the free boat to IconSiam. It has a fabulous pool area surrounded by lush greenery making it a real oasis in the city.

How to get to IconSiam

By boat

Without a doubt, the very best way to get to IconSiam is by their free shuttle boat. If you’re using the BTS then hop on the Silom line to Saphan Taksin then leave the station via exit one where you’ll find Sathorn pier. Just ask a member of pier staff or follow the signs to where the free boat docks. It’s a lovely ten minute journey down the river. The Chao Phraya Tourist boat also stops at IconSiam so no need to change boats.

By Bus

If you don’t fancy a trip along the river, IconSiam also provide a free bus. Take the BTS to Krung Thonburi BTS Station, leave at exit one then look for the signs advertising the shuttle bus. They run every 30 minutes and the drive should take around 15 minutes.

Final thoughts on Icon Siam Bangkok

IconSiam is a great place to shop in Bangkok but it’s well worth a visit even if you don’t feel like spending. The building is stunning and a wander round the grounds is a great way to experience the free art on display. It’s super easy to get to and will ease you in to life in Bangkok in a very safe and calm way.

Another great place for shopping, dining and attractions is Asiatique Bangkok, the shops tend to be stalls and independent traders and it’s home to the Big Wheel and the new Disney 100 Village.
