Villa Victoire, a gorgeous private pool villa in Koh Samui

Choosing where to stay in Koh Samui can be tricky. There are so many great options from luxury hotels to stunning villas to budget friendly apartments. One things for sure, due to the heat you’re going to want to opt for accommodation with a pool. Especially if you’re visiting with kids. During our recent visit we stayed at the stunning Villa Victoire, a brilliant private pool villa in Koh Samui, in the Mae Nam hills near the Fishermans Village.

Where is this private pool villa in Koh Samui?

Villa Victoire is located in the Mae Nam Hills on the North of Koh Samui Island. It’s just high up enough to offer some amazing views out to the gulf of Thailand but not too far into the hills that it feels remote. Koh Samui isn’t huge so it makes a great base from which to explore the whole island. It’s only a 15 minute walk or 5 minute drive down to Mae Nam beach or a ten minute drive into Bophut where you’ll find the Fishermans Village. It’s around a twenty minute drive from the airport.

What’s the pool like at Villa Victoire?

Let’s cover off one of the main features of this gorgeous three bedroom villa in Koh Samui. The stunning infinity pool! One of the main reasons we chose Villa Victoire was the pool and the amazing views. Whilst not huge the pool is plenty big enough for a splash about, a few laps and cooling down with a drink soaking in the surroundings. The in-pool jacuzzi was great for soothing our jet lag fuddled brains.

This is also a great place to take in the sunset at the end of the day. If you’re searching for a private pool villa in Koh Samui this really is the perfect way to unwind.

There is a small safety margin around the pool but it is in no way fenced off. I would not recommend letting kids of any age in unsupervised. We had two tweens who are both strong swimmers with us and I was still nervous when they were playing with their inflatables in the pool. Far better to jump in as well and have some fun.

The pool cleaner popped round a few times during our stay to ensure the pool was clean and the chemical levels were correct.

Facilities at Villa Victoire

Villa Victoire has everything you could possibly need for a stay in Koh Samui. It’s all spotlessly clean and well stocked. The main living areas are open plan but well partitioned. I love that we could be preparing a meal whilst the kids were relaxing in the sitting area and we could all still chat away.

There is a washing machine, dryer and iron but I find laundry to cheap to send out in Thailand we tend to drop off ours at a local laundry.

Kitchen

The kitchen in this gorgeous villa is a lovely open space. There’s plenty of work space to prepare meals and a little breakfast bar to sit and chat. We found more than enough crockery for the six of us and the large fridge freezer came in very handy for keeping our drinks cold.

Outside area

The floor to ceiling folding doors out to the terrace offer great views from indoors. Step outside and you’ll find the lovely private pool, a seating area with a table and plenty of sunloungers. There’s not a massive garden but I’m sure you’ll be spending most of your time at the beach anyway.

There is parking space for a couple of cars outside the front door.

Bedrooms

There are three bedrooms at Villa Victoire, each with super comfy king size beds. Each of the bedrooms has its own ensuite giving you plenty of privacy and ensuring there’s no fighting for the showers before you head out. Two of the rooms have floor to ceiling windows opening out to the pool terrace. The Villa provides plenty of bedding and towels and a couple of hairdryers.

Open space

This villa feels huge, there’s plenty of space for everyone and little areas to relax if you need some alone time. The sunken sofa was super comfy and we even managed to squeeze in some work outs.

There’s a large dining table that comfortably seats six which is a lovely place to share a meal or play games in the evening.

Bathrooms

There are three ensuite bathrooms and one guest bath. All were super clean and well stocked with toilet roll and soap.

Design of Villa Victoire

I loved the design of this sea view villa, the main focus is quite obviously on the view. It’s modern and fresh but with plenty of Thai inspired features.

Service at Villa Victoire

We were met on our arrival by a friendly English speaking representative of the Villa. He showed us around, told us how to work the TV, air conditioning etc and let us know all the house rules. We were given the number of the agent who communicated promptly with us over WhatsApp. During our stay we wanted to visit Koh Phangan for the Full Moon party and they were able to organise transport and tickets for us. They were so very helpful.

Is this private pool villa in Koh Samui Safe?

Villa Victoire is only accessible through the huge electric gates at its entrance. Meaning its very safe and secure. The main safety concern for families will be the pool and the hard floors and sharp edges. Just remember – no running with wet feet! We didn’t see any creepy crawlies or snakes in the villa, the walls and raised location of the house keeps it fairly cut off but I can’t promise you wont.

I don’t recommend drinking the tap water in Koh Samui or even using it to clean your teeth. Make sure you stock up on bottled water when you’re in town.

What is there to do near by?

There’s not a huge amount to do within walking distance of Villa Victoire. I really loved that it was slightly removed from the action so we could all relax in peace. There is a small restaurant and archery centre just a few minutes stroll away.

Walking into town and then onto Mae nam beach should take you around 15 minutes but the hike back up the hill at the end of the day is pretty brutal. We hired a car for our stay on Koh Samui which meant we could explore the whole of the island at our leisure. Check out Discover Cars to compare prices for your dates.

You could of course hire motorbikes or mopeds which is how most people see the island. This can be pretty dangerous so if you do, please only hire from a reputable agency, wear a helmet and drive safe. Do not take kids on bikes.

The Fisherman’s Village in Bophut is just over a ten minute drive although this can be a lot longer in traffic, as is lovely Bophut Beach. This is where one of my favourite restaurants in Koh Samui is located.

If you want a break from the beach then I recommend a drive inland – although be very careful, the roads can be very steep. We had to slow down for a rogue cow and huge black snake crossing the road in front of us. It’s well worth it though as you can experience some real Thai villages away from the tourists. Make sure you check out Na Muang waterfall for a cooling dip which is around 45 minutes drive away.

For daily food shops we just popped to the 7 11 in Mae Nam and when we did a large shop we went to the Tesco Lotus in nearby Bophut. There are so many great restaurants all over Koh Samui I doubt you’ll want to cook too often.

How to get to Villa Victoire

You’ll likely arrive on Koh Samui by plane. The airport is twenty minutes drive away. There’s really only one road round Koh Samui, the 4169. Make your way to that passing through Bophut and head East. You’ll pass several luxury Bophut hotels and the fishermans village on the way. Once you’ve passed the signs to the W Koh Samui on your right keep an eye out for Soi Maenam 1 road on your left. This turn is immediately before a bridge so go slow and alway check for mopeds before making any turn. Follow this road all the way up to Villa Victoire. It looks like this from the road.

If you plan on taking a taxi to Villa Victoire, I highly recommend asking the owners to organise it for you, that way they can communicate exactly where the villa is.

Remember to drop a pin in maps on your phone so you can easily find your way back during your stay.

How much is it to stay in this infinity pool villa?

You may think with all this, Villa Victoire would be really expensive but it’s genuinely not. Even during peak times it’s less than £200 per night. Great value considering it can sleep 6 people. Electricity is not included in the price of the villa so don’t be surprised at this extra cost. It shouldn’t be too much and this is pretty standard across Koh Samui.
